Hello Fellow Darbukastanis!
I am teaching an Anatomy for Belly Dancers class at DID this year, and I wanted to see what y'all ;) might want to learn. Since we only have an hour to address muscles, bones, and joints as they relate to the physical mechanics and anatomy of belly dance, what types of things would you most like to walk away with at the end of that class?
I could teach at least a whole semester on this. However, I need to streamline it to the most important points I can cover in that short time frame. Any feedback you can give would be greatly appreciated. What would you want to learn?
Thanks!
Jennifer

Re: Anatomy for Belly Dancers
Tue, March 27, 2007 - 7:35 AMHey Jennifer,
I'm glad you are offering this class. I tend to draw a lot of students who are recovering from one sort of injury or another.
Anything that might help with back injuries; like strengthening and protecting the back muscles, protecting the lower back, stretching the lower back. Keeping my spine limber! Why cant I touch my toes when I've been dancing for 11 years??!
Actually stretching in general is always good. How to protect your knees and ankles. keeping
I'm a mom, and I've noticed that some stretches are less effective and/or actually painful now that I've had a child and my hips are different.
If you want some more questions, I've got a ton. I learned a lot for the yoga class you taught at Tribalcon two years ago so I'm looking forward to it.

Sat, March 31, 2007 - 12:24 AMAny good advice about footwear and/or preventing foot injuries would be appreciated! I have plantar fasciitis (sp?) and the only thing that eleviates the discomfort is *good* footwear and stretching. I know a lot of dancer go barefoot, but I just can't. -

Sun, April 1, 2007 - 8:10 AMDenys, you crack my shit up. LOL! That gave me the case of the giggles.
Jen, I feel that I could ask a million questions, so I've been thinking it over to what is at the top of my list. I'm really excited about this workshop, I've never taken anything like it and I think it's FABooolus, dahling.
